DHL has launched the Cool Green Cell, a package specifically designed for pharmaceutical and medical products that must be temperature controlled.

The packaging, which is reusable, has been launched in NSW and QLD with all other states set to be live by the end of 2013. The packaging is made of high-quality polyurethane and has been specifically designed for the delivery of pharmaceutical and medical products that need to be stored between +2°C and +8 °C.

"The launch of The Cool Green Cell in Australia signifies the start of a new chapter for cold chain deliveries in this country," said Saul Resnick, vice president life sciences & healthcare, DHL Supply Chain.

"DHL has devised the temperature controlled packaging aimed at pharmacies, hospitals and clinicians, that is reusable, returnable and easily identifiable. This means our customers can reduce their supply chain costs and the time they would normally dedicate to waste management, all the while knowing they are using packaging that is environmentally friendly."

The Cool Green Cell package is unique in that DHL has full visibility of the delivery cycle, from warehouse to destination. Everything in the Cool Green Cell supply chain is linked via radio-frequency identification (RFID). Because each package has a unique identification code, these shipments are immediately identifiable as to their location in the supply chain.

DHL will launch The Cool Green Cell to other countries within the Asia Pacific region in due course.
